Carefully consider high school classes needed for graduation, short- and long-term goals, and future college plans. Discuss these with an advisor during the appointment to ensure the course selection aligns with goals.
Select college courses that are at least three credits to qualify for Dual Enrollment.
Avoid enrolling in unauthorized courses, as this may result in removal from those classes even after the semester has begun.
Things to Remember...
Planning Around Your Personal Schedule
Consider your high school schedule, work, sports, and graduation requirements when selecting CCP classes.
For in-person JCC classes, consult with the high school guidance counselor regarding early-release needs, if applicable.
Access and Tools
Ensure you have access to Blackboard for viewing class grades, e-texts, and online course materials.
Regularly review your JCC class schedule in Self-Service, checking that courses show a "registered" status to confirm enrollment.
Be aware that dropping a course after its start date may result in financial responsibility for any applicable student fees.
Check your account balance in Self-Service and ensure that it is paid by the specified deadline to avoid holds or issues with future registration.
Staying on Top of Important Dates
Regularly check the CCP Calendar, JCC Academic Calendar, and course syllabi for important dates, especially for billing review and payment, to avoid being dropped from classes due to non-payment.
Preparing for Classwork
Expect to dedicate approximately three hours per week for each course credit hour.
For example, two 3-credit courses will require around 20 hours of work per week.
JCC Library provides free tutoring, available on the Jaguar Tutoring webpage.
Science Courses
Note that fully online science labs require costly lab kits. Consider taking science labs on campus if a lower cost is preferred.
Plan to complete high school-level science courses before enrolling in college-level science classes (e.g., high school chemistry before college chemistry).
Course Changes
Once your advisor locks your schedule, submit any desired changes for review using Self-Service.
Changes should be minimal and thoughtfully considered, as approval may take time.
Use Self-Service to add or drop courses before the start of the semester. After classes begin, use the drop/add form until the census date, and the withdrawal form after that.
Graduation Year Actions
Meet with a high school guidance counselor to discuss goals for graduation year.
For students planning to continue at JCC, connect with the Student Success Center about applying, filling out the FAFSA, and completing other necessary forms.
