Dual Enrollment - Career & College Promise

Application Information

  • New 9th-12th grade students can apply to the CCP program during designated open application periods.
  • Inactive CCP students (those who were accepted previously but did not take courses for two or more consecutive Fall/Spring semesters) must reapply. Only withdrawal after census or completion counts as an active semester for CCP students.

  • Verify which pathways you qualify for at your current or rising high school grade level.
  • If applying in the Fall, choose pathways based on the grade you will be in during that full school year.
  • If applying in the Spring for a Fall start, choose pathways based on the grade you will be in that Fall.
  • For more details, visit: CCP Eligibility Requirements.

  • Eligible students can choose one College Transfer pathway and one Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway.
  • If you only plan to take college transfer courses, a CTE pathway is not required.
  • For juniors and seniors, it is recommended to add a college transfer pathway, if possible, even if primarily focusing on CTE.
  • JCPS students should speak with their CCP Representative about adding the BioWorks Pre-Apprenticeship option.

Students often have questions about which pathway(s) to choose. For rising juniors and seniors, the College Transfer: Associate of Arts pathway typically offers the most dual enrollment options. It is important to remember that the pathway does not determine your future degree. The Associate of Arts pathway provides the most flexibility, offering a wide range of humanities and social sciences classes that can count as high school electives.

  • If your goal is to fulfill your high school foreign language requirement with Spanish college courses, you must select a college transfer pathway. In this case, the College Transfer: Associate of Arts pathway is an excellent choice.
  • Note: Most CTE courses do not transfer to four-year colleges. If you have questions about college transfer courses, be sure to meet with a CCP college transfer advisor.

  • Most CCP courses can earn high school credit. Review the details and bring any questions to your advising appointment once accepted.
  • During advising, you will be guided on which courses align with your specific dual enrollment goals. For more information, refer to these resources:

  • College credits earned at other institutions can affect the recommendations you receive during advising and course choices. Ensure you submit official college transcripts from other colleges and/or AP test scores from College Board to the JCC Admissions Office.
  • Important: Official documents must be sent directly from the issuing institution to JCC Admissions.
  • All required application materials and documentation must be submitted within ten business days after the application period closes. If a student wishes to withdraw their application, they can do so by sending an email with the student's full name and high school name to jcc.ccp@johnstoncc.edu.

  • Non-JCPS students (including private, charter, other NC counties, and homeschoolers) must have an official high school transcript uploaded by their school to their application portal.
  • Homeschool Parents/Administrators – Transcript Requirements/Example
  • A current, timestamped homeschool registration (within the application period) must be uploaded to the student’s application portal. You can see an example here. The official registration can be found and downloaded from your account at: NC DNPE System.

  • You may either use the provided example or ensure your transcript includes the following elements:
    • All courses on one high school transcript (even if the student went to several schools – just note in a legend if the student attended another high school prior to homeschooling)
    • Full name of student, address and date of birth
    • Student grade level (9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th) with corresponding years (Ex: 9th Grade 2023-2024)
    • Expected graduation date (Month, Day, Year)
    • Name of School and School Address
    • Date of High School Entry (Month, Day, Year)
    • Completed and in-progress high school courses (mark course with grade or IP)
    • Unweighted cumulative GPA
    • Name of Homeschool Administrator (that acts as e-signature) and Date
  • The transcript must be submitted by the homeschool administrator.
